ABOUT
Hi, I’m Matt Faucher, a handcyclist and former wheelchair tennis player from Caerphilly, Wales. I was born with Congenital Insensitivity to Pain (CIP), which led to physical challenges, including multiple amputations by the time I was 16. But I’ve never let that hold me back from pursuing my love of sports.
In my late teens and early twenties, I dedicated myself to wheelchair tennis, coming incredibly close to qualifying for the 2004 Paralympics in Athens. One of my proudest moments was playing in the first-ever wheelchair tennis match at Wimbledon, an exhibition on Court 14 that was even featured on BBC television. By the time I was 21, tennis had taken me to some amazing places, but in 2005, I decided to step away to focus on family life.
Not one to stay away from competition for long, I eventually discovered handcycling—a sport that reignited my passion and drive. Since then, I’ve been competing in national and international events, earning a top-ten finish at the Paracycling Road World Cup in the Netherlands and a top 10 in the RR and TT at the World Championships in 2022.
Whether on the court or the road, I’ve always believed in pushing myself and showing what’s possible with grit and determination. The journey’s been incredible, and I’m excited for what’s next.

JOIN THE JOURNEY
Would you or your organisation like to help me on my journey?
I am and always intend to be very honest about where I am with regards to my development as a hand-cyclist. I am still in the early stages of my journey. I am part of the Great Britain Cycling Team as of 2022 though due to surgery have not competed during 2023.
2025 sees me back at full fitness to take on a full season of racing.
I have been very lucky to receive some fantastic support from Workplace Wellbeing and the ArcticOne Foundation in 2020 which enabled me to purchase my new bike.
If you would like to find out a little more about how becoming a partner / sponsor would work please get in touch, I am always open to discussion.
